Appointed new Director General of Customs and DUCE Board Chairman since 2015, Mr FONGOD Edwin NUVAGA has been at the heart of cross border trade issues for the past thirty years.

This rich experience mainly acquired within the customs administration has been built up through several senior positions, going from head verifying and passing offer to the head of the customs service of the North-Wests and the Littoral. He then occupied the position of Head of the Division in charge of Litigation and the IT department.

Very familiar with paperless issues that he has been very instrumental in the implementation thereof within Cameroon customs, Mr FONGOD Edwin NUVAGA has been, as the Head of the IT Department, the linchpin of the project for the development of the new customs management system dubbed CAMCIS (Cameroon Customs Information System) whose pilot phase was launched in the first quarter of 2019.

The electronic payment of customs duties and taxes, the electronic manifest management (e-Manifest), the interfacing of ASYCUDA ++ with information systems of partners of the supply chain, and partners, as well as the extension of the cargo tracking application to Chad and CAR, such are among other major paperless projects for which the Director General of customs was personally involved in their successful implementation.

At the international level, Mr NUVAGA has been Vice Chairman of the World Customs Organizations (WCO) for Western and Central Africa (2016 – 2017) and Chairman of the Subcommittee of the chief executives of customs of the African Union (2017 – 2018). He is currently member of WCO Audit Committee.

For the services to the Nation, the current GUCE Board Chairman has been decorated in the National Orders, as Officer of the National Order of Valor (2009) and Knight of the National Order of Valor (2018). He has also been awarded the WCO medal.

NUVAGA is a senior customs inspector, winner of the class 1989 of the customs inspectors at the National School of Administration and the Judiciary (ENAM). He holds a PhD in Development Studies obtained at the University of Yaoundé.

On the political front, he has been a municipal councilor for over 10 years and is the official representative of the Permanent Delegation of Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) in Mezam (southern Cameroon).
